36th Exam (Jan 2024) Afternoon Q121 Kaigo Fukushishi

Correct answer 2

Key pointWith involuntary movements, a cup with a straw allows the person to drink by themselves.

Explanation

When tea spills while bringing the cup to the mouth, a cup with a straw lets her drink without tilting the cup or lifting it to her mouth. This also respects Ms. E's wish to drink by herself.

  • 1: A feeding cup with a spout needs assistance, and there is also a risk of aspiration.
  • 3: A heavy cup can be effective for hand tremors, but it does not solve the problem of spilling before reaching the mouth due to involuntary neck movements.
  • 4: Even holding it with both hands does not prevent spilling caused by involuntary movements.
  • 5: Full assistance goes against Ms. E's wish to do things herself.
